Amina Shareef, a researcher of anti-Muslim racism, argues that the question of whether Elon Musk personally considers himself racist misses the larger issue. She describes him as a “race-war entrepreneur” who uses his wealth, political influence and ownership of X to amplify anti-Muslim narratives and racial conflict.
Shareef says Musk’s language about Muslims, including references to “rape and murder”, incompatible values and the “imposition of laws and rules”, racialises Muslims as inherently violent and hostile to western society. She says that this feeds broader narratives about demographic replacement and “white decline”, ideas Musk has repeatedly promoted to millions of followers.
