PYM marches to commemorate Anas Al-Sharif murder one year anniversary

One year after Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed in Gaza, protesters took to the streets of New York to remember him and demand accountability for the journalists still risking their lives to report from Gaza.

The Palestinian Youth Movement organized a march from The New York Times building to Times Square, accusing The New York Times and other Western media outlets of helping shape a narrative that protesters say has manufactured consent for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

MEE's Mounira Elsamra spoke to protesters who demand press freedom in Gaza. Protesters tell MEE, that remembering al-Sharif means standing up for the journalists who continue to report from Gaza despite the risks.

International journalists remain barred from entering Gaza, while Palestinian journalists continue to report under devastating conditions.
