A significant discussion meeting titled “Workers’ Rights and Dignity from the Perspective of Islam” was held in Chapainawabganj on the occasion of International Workers’ Day 2026. The event aimed to raise awareness about the rights, dignity, and social security of working people and drew considerable interest and participation from the local community. The program was organized by the Islamic Foundation, Chapainawabganj, and took place on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the foundation’s auditorium.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcome speech from a representative of the organizing body. In the opening remarks, the speaker highlighted the historical significance of May Day and briefly discussed the current conditions and challenges faced by workers. He emphasized that ensuring workers’ rights is not only a humanitarian obligation but also a moral and religious duty.
The chief guest of the event was the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Mr. Abu Hachan Md. Musa Zakaria. The special guest was Mr. Md. Khairul Islam, Senior Vice President of the Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce. The keynote discussion was delivered by noted Islamic scholar and khatib, Mr. Md. Mujtaba Ali. The session was presided over by Mr. Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, Acting Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation, Chapainawabganj.
In his speech, the chief guest stated that workers are the driving force of a nation’s economy. However, in reality, many workers are often deprived of their rightful entitlements. He noted that the government has taken various initiatives to ensure workers’ safety, fair wages, and dignity in the workplace, but emphasized that collective efforts from all sectors of society are necessary to make these initiatives effective. He further added that Islam, as a complete way of life, places great importance on labor and strongly advocates justice for workers.
The special guest highlighted the responsibilities of the business community. He stressed that employers and entrepreneurs should treat workers with fairness and humanity. According to him, sustainable growth of any organization depends largely on the satisfaction and security of its workforce. He also emphasized the importance of implementing modern labor policies and ensuring compliance with labor laws.
The keynote speaker elaborated on workers’ rights and dignity from an Islamic perspective. He explained that Islam accords great respect to labor and instructs that a worker’s wages should be paid before their sweat dries. By referencing verses from the Qur’an and Hadith, he demonstrated that injustice toward workers is a serious wrongdoing and entails accountability. He further noted that mutual respect and a sense of responsibility between employers and workers are essential for establishing justice in society.
In his presidential address, Mr. Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar summarized the overall proceedings and reiterated that the Islamic Foundation has long been working to promote moral and religious values in society. He expressed hope that such initiatives would contribute to positive social change and enhance public awareness regarding workers’ rights.
The event was attended by officials from various government and private organizations, teachers, students, local dignitaries, and members of the working community. Their active participation added significance to the program. At one stage, an open discussion session was held, where participants shared real-life challenges faced by workers and offered suggestions for potential solutions.
Through this discussion meeting, a strong message was conveyed about the importance of ensuring workers’ rights and dignity. The focus on Islamic perspectives made the message more relatable and impactful for the audience. In a world where economic growth is often prioritized, the event underscored the importance of maintaining human values and justice—an idea consistently reflected in the speakers’ remarks.
